When Her Royal Highness, The Princess Margaret, first met Elizabeth Taylor, she made a comment to her friends that the 33ct Krupp diamond worn by Taylor was “vulgar.” It got back to Elizabeth Taylor, who remembered everything. At a later meeting over dinner HRH asked about the ring. Miss Taylor took off the large diamond and handed it to The Princess, asking if she would like to try it on. HRH did put it on and admired it. Miss Taylor then remarked in a loud voice, so everyone could hear, “Not SO vulgar now, is it?”
